3D printing and prototyping
Far from the marketing hype of a few years ago, 3D printing is here to stay. At Roboclon we use it as a real working tool to create prototypes, custom parts and short runs quickly and affordably.
How it works
Although several techniques exist (granulate, lamination, etc.), the most popular is fused deposition modelling (FDM): from X, Y, Z coordinates, plastic material is deposited layer by layer to form the part. The prior 3D design, the file slicing and precise temperature control are what separate a good result from a defective part.
Our workflow
- 3D design or modelling (CAD): we start from your idea, a drawing or an existing part, using professional software for accuracy.
- Layer slicing: we generate the print file, adjusting infill, density and temperature for each material.
- Printing: we select the right material (PLA, PETG, ABS, flexibles…) depending on the part's final use.
- Finishing: post-processing, sanding or painting when the project requires it.
Common applications
- Functional prototypes to validate a product before manufacturing.
- Spare parts that are no longer produced.
- Jigs, fixtures and custom parts for your company.
- Models and marketing/communication items.
